Chinese electric vehicle Maker Xpeng Inc. has issued a recall affecting 47,490 units of its flagship P7+ sedan—impacting over 70% of the model's owners. The recall stems from a steering defect linked to faulty sensor wiring harnesses, which may trigger warning lights before complete failure. Vehicles produced between August 2022 and April 2023 are primarily affected.

Xpeng has pledged free part replacements, but the MOVE underscores growing quality control pressures in China's hypercompetitive EV market. The P7+, launched late last year, had been a sales standout with 67,000 units delivered before the recall.

The incident coincides with intensified price wars among automakers, including BYD, Tesla, and Nio, as they battle for dominance in the world's largest EV market. Margin compression has forced manufacturers to squeeze suppliers, raising regulatory concerns about sustainability.
